What makes something SPECIAL is not just what you have to gain. But what you feel there is to lose. ~Andre Agassi

As the Vienna tournament comes to a close and Rublev comes out victorious over Sonego, I think everyone is becoming interested in who will replace the big 3 (Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer). Although Djokovic and Nadal seem eager to keep playing and dominating for the time being there are some things that You should look out for that might indicate a dominant player :

~ Does height play a factor? What is the ideal height?

~ Current results and trends of success? Underdogs?

~ Current ranking?

~ What made the Big 3 so dominant?

The Big ‘3’ / Rafa, Novak, and Roger

The big 3 are all in the range of 6"1' to around 6"3'. Does this contribute to why they are dominant? Most likely not. There are so many players around this height. It simply seems to be average. This seems to be a height still agile, yet tall enough to create big shots.

Some big players who seem to have been doing well recently are Zverev, Shapovalov, Rublev, Auger-Aliassime, Sinner, and several others. They have all shown great current results in grand slams, reaching at least the Quarter’s, and have been performing quite well in ATP tournaments as well.

The Big 3 were dominant due to something unique that they have. For Rafa it is his amazing movement on the court and speed, for Novak it is his amazing flexibility and ability to get very hard balls, and for Roger it is his sheer talent, touch and feel for the ball.

Do you have any predictions who could take the #1 rank spot and become as dominant as one of the big 3? Let me know!
